SUMMARY: Responsible for the instruction of non-native English speakers to improve their English language proficiency with the goal of assimilation into English language content area subjects. The itinerant position requires travel within and among the districts assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

• Conducts effective assessments to identify levels of language proficiency, acquisition, and content learning
• Collects and interprets data and utilizes it to modify instruction and content and to report progress
• Provide assistance supporting the fundamental concepts and practices of English as a second language instruction
• Consults with school administrators, teachers, and staff regarding the needs of individual students and various teaching strategies, adaptations, and/or modifications designed to meet those needs
• Participate in individualized education plan preparation for English language learners who are participating in special education assistance/services.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Provide school staff with resources and/or professional activities to promote understanding and sensitivity toward all cultures
• Provide appropriate information and services to English language learner’s families.
• Provide assistance to academic content teachers as they instruct English language learners in the required content knowledge.
• Maintain a valid state driver’s license and ability to drive without advanced notice

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students when in an individual and small group setting.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in education and highly qualified status as defined by Federal mandate.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Pennsylvania (Inst. I or II) teaching certificate with ESL Program Specialist certification.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret pertinent reports, professional correspondence, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and other correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, teachers, parents, and agencies.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and understand norming procedures. Ability to apply concepts such as standard scores, percentages, ratios, and percentile rank to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and present student programs based on developmental needs, academic standards, and individual and team objectives in a STEM curriculum.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, teachers, parents, and community agencies; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Competent in the use of computer technology.
