SUMMARY: Responsible for the instruction of non-native English speakers to improve their English language proficiency with the goal of assimilation into English language content area subjects. The itinerant position requires travel within and among the districts assigned.

Supervises students when in an individual and small group setting.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in education and highly qualified status as defined by Federal mandate.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Pennsylvania (Inst. I or II) teaching certificate with ESL Program Specialist certification.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret pertinent reports, professional correspondence, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and other correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, teachers, parents, and agencies.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and understand norming procedures. Ability to apply concepts such as standard scores, percentages, ratios, and percentile rank to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and present student programs based on developmental needs, academic standards, and individual and team objectives in a STEM curriculum.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, teachers, parents, and community agencies; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Competent in the use of computer technology.
