Description | QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum):
- Associate degree in related technologies, or Three (3) years experience in Datacenter Administration / Networking Technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of network architecture, data center management, and virtualization technologies is required.
- Industry-standard certifications such as CCNA, (Cisco Certified Network Associate), JNCIA (Juniper Networks Certified Internetworking Associate), or similar are preferred.
- Other equivalent combinations of training, experience, and education will be considered.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Regional Wide Area Network Specialist - Level II position entails comprehensive management and enhancement of our organization's data center and network infrastructure. The specialist is responsible for overseeing the entire network infrastructure environment, ensuring high-performance and secure network systems operation. Key duties include proactive network administration, implementing advanced data security measures, and continuously improving IT infrastructure efficiency. The role also demands strategic involvement in network and data center growth, including planning, implementing upgrades, and integrating innovative technologies to meet evolving organizational needs and technological advancements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Highly proficient in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues related to network architecture and security, both independently and collaboratively. Capable of identifying root causes and implementing innovative solutions quickly.
- In-depth understanding of data center management, including server hardware, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and storage solutions.
- Strong knowledge of network principles, protocols, and architectures (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Proficiency in managing network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs.
- Excellent documentation skills for creating and maintaining network diagrams, data center layouts, and standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrate superior customer service skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical end-users. A proven record in delivering swift and effective support while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.
- Ability to produce and refine technical documentation, including system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures. Precision and clarity in documenting processes are crucial.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design, configuration, and maintenance of the organization's data center infrastructure, including network switches, routers, firewalls, and other various network equipment.
- Monitor and optimize network performance, ensuring high availability and reliability of IT services.
- Implement and manage security measures to protect data and network resources.
- Collaborate with IT teams and vendors for the implementation of IT projects, including system upgrades and expansions.
- Provide technical support and training to users, ensuring efficient and secure use of network and data center resources.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in data center and network technologies.
- Conduct systematic system monitoring, maintenance, and performance testing to identify potential issues and proactively address them to minimize downtime and service availability.
- Stay updated about emerging network technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements relevant to K-12 school environments and recommend improvements or enhancements to network services to meet evolving needs.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for scheduled and unscheduled travel. Perform any additional duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primary Responsibilities:
- On-Call Network Outage Responsibilities: Serve as primary contact for network outages, including immediate troubleshooting and coordination with relevant teams to ensure timely resolution following IU17 defined protocols. This responsibility requires availability outside of standard working hours, including weekends and holidays, to address urgent network issues.
- Physical Demands: This role involves frequent lifting (up to 60 pounds) and is physically demanding. Duties encompass a broad spectrum of physical activities, including lifting, carrying, and handling various materials and equipment.
- Work Environment: Work is primarily conducted in a school building/campus, datacenter, office, or laboratory setting. However, there may be occasional exposure to outdoor elements and working in awkward or confined spaces to address network issues.
- Travel Requirements: Regular travel to various IU locations and customer sites is mandatory. This may include travel outside of BLaST IU17’s region and necessitates overnight stays, which will be covered by the employer as per company policy.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the role and the organization's evolving needs.
